Inclined Plate Clarifiers (IPC) are utilized in a wide variety
of applications for the removal of suspended solids from water
by gravity settling (sedimentation). Clarifiers come in many
shapes and sizes from simple rectangular to circular settling
basins with sludge thickening rakes and sludge blanket level
controls. Regardless of geometry, all clarifiers must provide
effective area for settling. Removal efficiency (GPM/sq ft.)
strongly depends on flow rate, type of solids, and solids
concentration.Rectangular or circular settling basins require
large amounts of plant floor space to supply adequate effective
area for solids separation. In comparison SAMCO IPC clarifiers
employ an inclined plate concept to provide high effective area
within a compact unit. The entire plate surface is used for
settling, thus the effective settling area for an inclined plate
type is the horizontal projection of the plate area. Large
numbers of plates are stacked together to provide the same
settling in as little as 1/5th of the plant floor space required
by other clarifiers.
In addition to savings in plant floor space, SAMCO inclined
plate clarifiers minimize hydraulic short circuiting and lower
overall installation costs. Because SAMCO inclined plate
clarifiers have no moving parts, annual maintenance costs are
also reduced.
