Oil/water separators (OWS) are capable of separating oils and
solids from water where the oil and solids have a different
specific gravity than water. Effluent concentrations of
non-emulsified oil can be removed down to 10 mg/l. SAMCO OWS
Systems consist of a rectangular tank with baffles and weirs
designed to direct flow, skim oil and control the liquid levels
in the device. Cone bottom sludge chambers in the bottom of the
unit are provided to collect the sludge.Plastic media is
contained in the tank to assist in coalescing the oil. This
plastic media is effective because of its oleophilic nature. As
oil droplets pass along the plastic media pack they are
attracted to the media and adhere. As additional droplets are
directed to the media larger droplets are formed. When the
droplets become large enough they break away and rise to the top
of the tank. The base model oil/water separator is a solid
choice for separating free oil from a wastewater stream. Waste
streams with emulsified oils will require pretreatment,
sometimes referred to as "cracking", to break the emulsion and allow the oil to be
separated as free oil by the oil/water separator. SAMCO’s
reaction tank unit (RTU) product line, combined with the
oil/water separator, is an excellent choice for treating waste
streams with emulsified oil. |
